Dr. Yakubu Sambo supervises HIV, tuberculosis, orphans and vulnerable children and gender-based violence programs implemented by the Institute in Nasarawa State, as the State Manager.
He leads efforts to identify people living with HIV, retain them in treatment and ensure that they are virally suppressed under the SURGE project. Dr. Sambo also ensures strong partnerships with the government, sub-partners, community-based organizations and stakeholders for quality care and treatment programs.
Within IHVN, he has held the positions of Senior Program Officer and Enhanced Site Monitoring Team Lead, Adamawa State Manager and Program Officer Clinical/ Quality Improvement Team Lead. He also worked with GEDE Foundation as Head of Clinic and Chief Physician.
His areas of expertise are in HIV management, tuberculosis management and control, leadership and management of human resources, and malaria.
Dr. Sambo earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Jos, Plateau State and has over ten years of experience in public health program implementation. He is a skilled public speaker and professional Master of Ceremonies. He has also volunteered on a weekly health talk radio show on Silverbird’s Rhythm 94.7 FM to create awareness on health issues.
His hobbies are making videos, acting and working with young people. He is married with children.
